Wednesday's Child: An introduction

Do you remember this poem from when you were young? Mondays child is fair of face, Tuesdays child is full of grace, Wednesdays child is full of woe, Thursdays child has far to go, Fridays child is loving and giving, Saturdays child works hard for his living, And the child that is born on the Sabbath day Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay. This poem has always pissed me off a little because you see, I was born on a Wednesday. As a youngster I was adamant that this poem was quite frankly full of shit. I was a perfectly happy child, my face was fairish, I had a small amount of grace, I was both loving AND giving. Why did all those other days get awesome things and I was stuck with woe? *kicks dirt with toe* But now I'm older I see that this was really just some sort of scary prediction about my depression. I mean what else could it be?! (What do you mean there's no meaning at all and someone just made it up a really long time ago when people still said g...

52Blogs

So the dashing and debonair @londonjustin from the twitters (and also from over here ) has started a new initiative this year titled 52 Blogs. Which can be found over here and is described as "a simple blogging challenge to occupy your time". The challenges will, knowing Justin, be quite random in their theming so expect the unexpected. I've decided to participate because I'm hoping it will push me to blog at least once a week on a regular basis.  This year is going to be pretty full on for me and I think having a regular outlet / distraction for myself will be good. All 52 Blogs related posts will be tagged accordingly and there are plenty of other people participating if you're looking for something to read (they're listed on the 52 Blogs site).

30 Day Challenge Again - Day Nine

something you're proud of in the past few days So I've been putting off writing this post. Whenever I do one of these blogging things there is always something that puts a road block in my way. One post that brings everything to a screaming halt and destroys any mojo I may have had going. Right now I am struggling to think of anything I'm proud of. It's been a rough month and a half (ish) and my confidence has taken a pretty big hit (again). That ridiculous depression voice is in my ear telling me that all of the worthlessness is me. That I have little, if anything, of value to offer. This isn't helped by losing my contract for work (long, boring story). More proof that I am shit. SHUT UP DEPRESSION VOICE! However I now have a tiny glimmer of awesomeness that I am clinging to. My inflatable life saver of light. I have been offered the opportunity to work on a film next year. Not only that, but I will be working with some of the newest additions to my list o...

30 Day Challenge Again - Day Two

the meaning behind your blog name the 2010 Day Two post can be found here My blog is called a warped view because it is a collection of blog posts about how i see the world, my unique (and some might say unusual) way of viewing events, circumstances, people etc. I wear tif coloured glasses and they warp everything. My depression certainly changes the way i interact with the world and its inhabitants, as does my experience as a woman, a mother, daughter, wife and friend. i believe that each of us wears our own set of glasses that colour our world with the sum of our experiences, we're all a little warped really.

Generation Gap

Let me start this post by saying that I love my mother shaped person to absolute bits and pieces. She has always been the things I aspire to be as a mother and woman, strong, independent, loyal, loving, courageous, caring, compassionate and an optimist. However there are some things that we just don't see eye to eye on. One of the biggest differences between us is our view on sharing personal stories, emotions, hurdles, etc. I think it is 99% a generational thing. She was raised with the belief that you didn't talk about personal problems, you just got on with things. Mental illness was considered a weakness and weakness in any form was not something that other people should know about. Serious issues were always discussed behind closed doors and were never, ever talked about in polite company. It is ingrained in her and on top of that she is a very private, reserved person any way. I, on the other hand, am seriously lacking a filter (as if you hadn't noticed already). ...

Day Twelve

how you found out about blogging and why you have one I guess I have always known about blogging, since back in the day it became the thing to do. Over the years I have had various blogs, never on any specific topics and never for any length of time. I am terrible at keeping up regular blogging (or regular anything really) which is part of the reason I am doing this 30 Day Challenge. I have always enjoyed writing and even contemplated making it my career at one point (what haven't I contemplated doing?!). I don't really seem to be able to write with any consistency or focus though. I have hundreds of unfinished stories and books full of poetry and snippets of writing. I go through phases where I have to write everyday, and phases where I don't write anything for months. Being on Twitter has meant that I am using the written word a lot more everyday and I have a personal blog where I write about whatever takes my fancy, movies, restaurants, conversation, things that happen e...
